Open letter to displaced RateMyCop.com members

As was pointed out in an earlier vent, the police watchdog website RateMyCop.com has been shut down by GoDaddy, the company that had been providing the hosting.

GoDaddy's original explanation was that the site had exceeded it's allocated bandwidth usage but we all know that isn't the truth since any hosting company would simply charge you for the overage. Next, they admitted that the site had been shut down due to "suspicious activity" and for revealing the identities of undercover cops and posting the names and addresses of police officers, putting their lives in danger. Both allegations are false.

The real reason is censorship and a violation of the website owner's first amendment right of free speech. I realize that GoDaddy is a private company and therefore is not legally bound to uphold their customer's first amendment rights, but unless they can prove that the owner of the site was doing something illegal, I see the shut down as censorship.

I'm sure the owner of RateMyCop.com is feverishly searching for a new hosting company but the last time I checked the site, Loving Family Dollhouses was displayed at that domain.

This is an open invitation to all RateMyCop.com members who are currently unable to post on that site to do their venting here until the site is back up again. If you know anyone that uses RateMyCop.com please pass this invitation along to them. If you are the owner of RateMyCop.com please don't look at this as an attempt to steal your members, I am simply offering a stop gap measure and will be happy to link to your site once it's back up and running again.

    >>> GoDaddy is a private company and therefore is not legally bound to uphold their customer's first amendment rights

and this is the problem. Private companies SHOULD be required to obey the constitution. The government is wiggling out of "the Supreme Law of the Land" by allowing, even supporting other people and organizations (FCC anyone?) to make rules and laws that violate free expression rather than the gov't itself violating it. Pretty sneaky. /end of what could have been a separate rant

If the company that is currently hosting the site, I assume it's Google, has shut the site down, what logical reason can they have for redirecting the domain to Loving Family Dollhouses?
