Well, we - speaking for politicians - are generally not "fucking stupid". While not better human beings than any of you, most politicians are students of government, and have a better understanding about the workings of government than the average person.
Of course politicians make mistakes. So do engineers. Yet rarely do you hear a rant about "fucking stupid engineers" asking "why we listen to these assholes" and implying that we are just as able to build bridges.
Generally, politicians are qualified individuals who persue careers of public service while often times qualified for much better paying jobs. There are few - if any - politicians that are both successful and "fucking stupid".

what makes politicians better than you? Well, they have the ability to get a majority of Americans to vote for them. They then go and represent the people who voted for them in a legislative body. That is why "we listen to them"... because we bestowed power upon them.

^^^ Are you kidding? How can you even begin to compare politicians to engineers? Engineers strive everyday to better the world for all of humanity, not just those with the biggest wallets. Granted, people make mistakes, but therein lies the difference.
The few tragic faults made by engineers are paid for not only in wealth, but also in pride, reputation, and freedom, regardless of how unintentional. The shortcomings of engineers are well known and documented, not only to accept the burden of failure, but more importantly, to learn and ensure future errors will not be made.
Politicians make blatant DECISIONS that allow poverty, disease, famine, war, and death, not only for those in other parts of the world, but for the very citizens they are chosen to represent. Of these “mistakes”, few are ever made known to the general public, and those that are leaked are not compensated for, but rather covered-up and downplayed. Regardless how many examples of corporate scandal, corruption, or political injustice, politicians will never learn from their “accidents”.
The actions of politicians are not mistakes. A mistake is, simply put, an error in judgement. A bridge failing or building collapsing is undeniably the fault of its designer, but this failure comes after years of planning, testing, and research, made in the best efforts to prevent this type of disaster in order to PRESERVE AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF ALL HUMAN LIFE. You truly believe politicians can say the same?
I am a second year engineering student. Not only do attend merciless hours of class in order to be able to competently make decisions in the future workplace, but to become a professional engineer I am required to take courses and exams on ethics, sustainability, public health, and humanitarian engineering.
I understand you only want to plead your case, but please, don't drag us down with you.
