I wish my mother would shut up sometimes.

So my mom's a total idiot sometimes. I had an academic meeting tonight at my high school, and only two kids out of my freshman class of 80 got all A's (not straight A's, even, I don't think), thanks to new state requirements pressing down on us.

I wasn't one of them; I got a B+ for the semester in my Algebra 2 class. ( Some of you make think this isn't a big deal, but I've had straight As since I started getting letter grades).

So my mom won't shut up about it, and she wants me to tell everyone my shitty GPA that I'm embarrassed about, and when I don't respond well, she goes around complaining about my 'crabbiness' and other shit like that.

Later tonight, she came into my room and started to tell me that I could still be valedictorian of my class, and other dumb shit like that, which we both know isn't true. And when I wearily told her I just wanted to drop it, she told me, 'Well fine, when you need something from me, I'll tell you to just "Drop it." And she acted like I was being a total bitch to her.

How the hell does that even relate?! Does she want something from me? I wouldn't even feel that crappy about my failure if she didn't keep bringing it up. I feel so awful.

ummm... you're pissed at yourself and your mom is pissed at you because you got a B? When I was in school I was lucky to get a B and yet I graduated from college, had several good jobs and eventually started my own business and now live very comfortably. Get over it.

Ask your mom what her GPA was. If it wasn't better than what yours is now, tell her to look in the mirror and re-examine her own life.

This seems like it's more her issue than yours.

Algebra 2 sucks so much asshole. I feel you man. I currently have a 62 in my algebra 2 class and its not my fault. And as for the valedictorian and that shit, fuck that. that is just a mark of how nerdy you can be. I have only known one that wasn't nerdy and that was because he smoked so much pot that he somehow developed photographic memory. The only reason why winning that award didn't make people make fun of him was because his speech was on flying pigs and shit.

I know it probably won't make you feel any better at all, but I thought I'd share this bit of information with you. I graduated in December 08 from college. I had just found out that I was graduating cum laude. Not summa or magna, just plain cum laude. And I was disappointed in myself because of it. I knew I could have done better, but had gotten a few bad grades along the way. Then I had to sit through a lecture that I felt was a waste of my time. I still feel like it was MOSTLY a waste of my time. But I did get one bit of info out of it. When employers look at your transcripts and GPAs, the ones that have any idea of what will actually work in society go for the ones that made good grades, but not the best. People who always make all As and strain to become valedictorian (according to this speaker) and such, are good at one thing... school. The real world and school are not the same thing and if you show that you're good at school, but that it isn't the most important thing in your life it's proof that you're more well-rounded and capable of being adaptable for real-world situations that occur in the job market. So be PROUD of your B+ because perfect grades do not make you a perfect person.
