Affirmative action

i'm so sick and tired of this shit. I know and understand why it was put in place, and still believe that racism and all that is bad. But requiring that a company have so many miniorities i think must be a joke. I'm white and i can't get a job for a company because they dont have enough miniorities. I know a company that had a lazy ass black guy (not all blacks are lazy, just this one was really lazy), didn't do any work. Knew he couldn't be fired because of two things. First they were at the minimum for miniorities, and second is that he knew he could sue them for wrongful termination (due to him being black). There would be nothing wrongful about terminating him. Just that our courts are so fucked up that they would award him money if the company actually fired him.

What we should do is remove affirmative action and keep the lawsuits for ricism and whatnot. If you are not hiring someone for the job because of their race (which is difficult to see but can be proved), then they should be able to sue you. But if there are two equally qualified people, it shouldn't just default to the minority.

When will we actually be considered equal and treat everyone as equals, as appose to putting in rules and laws that are suppose to MAKE us be equal.

As long as there are rules or laws to give one creed an advantage in anyway, we will never be on equal ground.

This has been a rant before, and I'll say what I said before:

Fighting racism with racism will never be effective, ever. It's asinine, and the fact that it's still a policy is absolutely ridiculous.

That said, good luck finding a job.

It is one of those things that looks good on paper, and has good intentions.
    But it sucks in practice.

"paying for the sins of your fathers" wtf? Neither my father nor grandfather was a part of these "sins".
Also almost all of the under-qualified "minorities" yelling racism, where born long after these "sins".

There's a reason it's more commonly known as "Affirmative BLACKtion", you know..

It's a bullshit policy at best. Hire the best person for the job from the start based on their SKILLS and not their skin color. This policy is, sadly enough, discrimination against whites. Do we get to bitch about it, too? Nope.

Yes, minorities often have to work harder to get to the same place (in terms of education, skill, money), because of racism and not just because many are immigrants. There are so many factors in here--- Immigrant culture vs. American culture. Different types of Racism (the "White people have it so easy" racism vs. the "Asians always work hard and don't complain" racism vs. the "Uneducated Blacks and Latinos" racism). There's no way affirmative action can account for all of this.

What would be cool is something that accounts for each individual's background *before* they reach adulthood with fewer skills, etc. Kinda like a scholarship to school or living situation, based on each individual person's background and experiences.

#2 oddly enough, i wrote this rant a long time ago, i'm guessing that the site rotates some older rants into the new spotlight if there isn't enough new rants, like it takes 10 new rants a day, and if there is only 5 it randomly chooses 5 more to make up that 10.

Good points from most of you, not #6, i'm sorry if i think that affirmative action is bad, but really i do. Forcing a company to hire a certain number of miniorities only means that someone else isn't going to get the job because of it. I feel this way about almost any law that is like that. We as a people can never been seen as equals as long as we have these things.

no matter how equal we become, as long as there is even a slight chance that someone will get hired over me because of their skin, i will always think lower of them, that they needed the help. Sure you could say that they need it, but at some point they dont need it, and when do you decide that?

look at females, they have no laws that say you have to hire so many females. They have progressed in the market and while may not be "equal" we are seeing an increased amount in high power jobs and women are being seen more and more as equals. In the sense of just the general society it appears that we see them as complete equals, mean-while i think we (as in whites / socieity in general) still see blacks and hispanics as lower. I'm not saying that i personally think that, i just think that other people think that. And until we remove this double standard, we will never get past that.
