I do not serve at a restaurant because it brings me great joy, so BACK OFF.
I did not start working at a restaurant because I LOVE the idea of serving hungry, bitchy people. I do not love taking your orders and getting you 5 refills before your meal comes out (speaking of drinks - is it necessary to get 2 drinks at one time? NO. I do not have 6 arms, and I am limited to carrying 4 drinks at a time so give that some thought the next time you want a pepsi AND a water). I do not love listening to you complain about the dishes being dirty or the loud annoying kids sitting in the booth next to you, or how cold it is (because for servers, its actually too hot from running around) and I also don't give a crap about how you think the music is too loud.. turn down your hearing aid. And yes, I understand that 10 years ago garlic bread came with everything and you think it is an utter annoyance that you have to now pay . 39 cents per piece of bread but I DO NOT CONTROL THE ECONOMY.If you tell me you are ready to order, YOU BETTER BE READY TO ORDER. I have other tables, which means I don't have 10 extra minutes to stand around at your table while you then proceed to read over the descriptions of all of the meals. Also you know, I DO NOT COOK YOUR FOOD so when something on your meal comes out wrong and I apologize even though it is the LAST thing I care about doing, cut me some slack and recognize that IT IS NOT MY FAULT.
I am a human being. I am not a slave. I am not your waitress because I love you - cause NEWS FLASH:::::: I DON'T. My managers are assholes and so are 85% of the people I work with so the last thing I need is for my customers to be assholes, as well.
Also - can 2 dollars buy you a gallon of gas? NO. Think about that the next time you leave someone a 2 dollar tip on a 20 dollar check. I NEED TO SURVIVE TOO. I realize that you look at me and think that I am a 20 year old so what do I need to pay for? But I am going to college, I have to pay for my own gas, I have to pay for my apartment, for my food, etc etc etc...
If any of the above applies to you, do me a favor and think twice before you decide on eating at Applebees next time, cause I sure as hell don't want you there and neither does anyone else.

2I make sure I respect the people serving me because I have a job catering to assholes and morons too. I thank you for what you do, and I'll make sure to leave a decent tip the next time I eat out.
And my mother is my own nightmare customer...

4I know this is going to be out of the norm.. but if you dont like customers... then please go find yourself a job where there is no customers. Oops wait thats right we are all customers, therefore we will all be serving one type of ASSHOLE or another. In your case, you chose this profession, if you don't like it... leave it.

5Applebees food is horrible.
Your job is to make their stay very pleasant. your needs come last and theirs come first.
I can order as many drinks as I want.
I left a $15 tip on a $21 check tonight.

6"In your case, you chose this profession, if you don't like it... leave it."
I knew some fucking asshole would leave a comment like this.
Seriously, service jobs, ESPECIALLY food service jobs, suck ass. Sometimes these are the only jobs you can get.

7the one thing I don't get is the issue with leaving a two-dollar tip for a 20-dollar meal. what, do you want them to leave you ten dollars just because you need it? did you ever consider that they might be a little tight on money too? tips are NOT mandatory, be happy for whatever you get.

8Honestly, the food service industry blows. I've been a server for about two years now, and I know the people leaving the comments like "You chose the profession.." and "tight on money.." have cushy jobs like kindergarten teacher or some fucking stupid telemarketing job where they get paid thirteen dollars an hour plus some sort of commission to harass people at dinnertime. Regardless, I LOVE getting a three-top of German tourists who drink their weight in Budweiser, run up a $70 check and I happen to be working with the Polish, FORMER HOSTESS, bitch manager who won't add a gratuity because GOD KNOWS THEY'LL LEAVE ME $0. 82. I love when I go to the table to see if "Everything is great?" and the people sneer that I forgot their mayonnaise, I fetch it from the FUCKING REAR OF THE RESTAURANT, and then they demand me to "get them some more water" or suck at the bottom of their glass OBNOXIOUSLY because I'm just sitting around on my ass and my sixteen other tables don't need their food, or to pay out or napkins or some other fucking trivial bullshit. By this time, I'm sweaty and my feet and back are on fucking fire and I don't want to deal with whiny adults and drunk college kids. And last night was my birthday. I went into the restaurant where I work so I could see some coworkers and have a drink, and the manager was talking to a customer who was demanding we pay for his dry cleaning bill because a food runner accidentally spilled some tartar sauce on his K Mart polo because the place was on a 45-minute wait and everyone except the bartender was running around, insanely. How can people be so fucking rude to people who are complete strangers? Oh, and how about something proportionate, instead of two on twenty, how about four? I don't really need to eat, or pay rent, right?

9I hate it when people answer work-related rants with something like "Why don't you just quit?"
Because I need the money, you ass! I'd love nothing more than to quit and follow my dreams instead, maybe even get a job doing that, but sadly there is no job like that available. Even if I did find something less obnoxious, I'd have to start on minimum wage or something like that, so I can't really afford to switch jobs! Besides, someone has to do the dirty work. Don't try to tell me it's ANYONE'S dream to become an Applebees slave or a dishwasher at some shithole, but someone has to do it.
That being said, I personally like my job. For the first time since I started working, I have a job that actually pays a living wage, comes with nice perks and is fun, goddammit! However, it's not perfect. Nothing is. So sometimes I too need to rant about it. If I didn't, I'd probably grow to resent it, quit and have to start all over again.

10Teenagers don't really have the option of choosing jobs. We work at crappy service based industries doing jobs that monkeys could do. They are boring and we put up with way too much abuse for way too little money.
People, if you cannot afford to tip your waiter/waitress, you don't need to eat out. In my state, a tipped employee makes about $3. 15 an hour. Without tips that's just $126 dollars a week, without taking out taxes. I couldn't even pay my insurance on that. A 15% tip is not going to push you over the edge into debt!

11i always pay 15%... 20% if everything runs smoothly

12thank you to everyone who seems to understand at all where i am coming from. for those of you who chose to leave comments telling me to ''leave my job'' or my favorite ''maybe they are a little tight on money too'' (which for those who that does apply to - why the hell are you wasting your money at a restaurant, and more specifcally, applebees?!) the only thing i can really say to you is you don't know what its like until you've worked in the food service industry. so why don't give your daddies wallet a break and get an actual job that doesn't consist of kissing your parents ass in exchange for your paid bills?

13these minimum wages you guys are talking about are horrible! in ontario minimum wage for adults is $8. 75 and students is $8. 20.
10% for bad service, 20% for good, 15% the norm.
