Yet another pot vent
I just want to vent more about how damn dumb it is that pot is illegal. People say it is a gateway drug, or that it harms people, or that it is addicting / habit forming. Well if that is the case why do we still have legalized gambling? gambling is addicting too, along with drinking.I just watched a video where a congressman was saying how if you drank some gin and felt better, that doesn't mean that gin is medicine, but then i thought to myself, "but gin isn't illegal".
It just gets to me when pot is illegal and yet we have so much other crap legal. You are worried that your kid might smoke pot, making it legal might make your kid have more access to it but you know what, you can't protect them from everything. They are just as likely to buy alcohol as they are weed.
Maybe what we are afraid about weed is that america is we already have a problem with overweight people, and then you add the munchies and it will only get worse.
And to all those people who says that it dulls the brain, there has been massive research on pot and it is found it doesn't harm the brain, the only way it "harms" it is because you spend time smoking and playing with it rather than studying, but that is the same for video games. Show me one person who has wasted their life with pot and i'll show you 3 that have wasted their life with video games. But do we ban video games?
Bah, i guess i'm done. Just pisses me when responsible people like myself who smoke in moderation and put work above getting high can't spend a little money on the weekend and relax.

1Alcohol isn't made from a plant that would make the cotton industry completely obsolete. If marijuana was legal they would have to legalize hemp too and that would piss off too many massive corporations. As for other drugs, other massive corporations would have some competition and that cannot be tolerated either.

2I thought hemp WAS legal, in the U. S.?

3People waste their lives using all sorts of addictions: Alcohol, tobacco, T. V., videogames, comic books, Dungeons and Dragons, WoW, trading card games, marijuana, gambling, lotto, shopping, eating, sex... and the list goes on.
All of these activites are fine as long as you don't let them control your life - smoking pot included.
If you can hold down a steady job, don't live with your parents, and can take care of your needs while not letting friendships and family fall by the wayside, then it's ok to have a couple of drinks a day, or to eat a few big meals, or go on a shopping spree, or watch 4 hours of T. V. or smoke a few joints.
I can't stand that the lazy, irresponsible, criminal stoner is what jumps to most people's minds when they think of marijuana. There are many of us out there who smoke pot and lead productive lives. The stereotype is just that - a stereotype. By no means does it represent all of us.

4i've heard that there is an active chemical in the brain that reacts with marijuana, and in some people, it can actually make you smarter with the more you smoke. although, it has a converse effect, as well, in other people - making them dumber.
just an something interesting i've picked up somewhere.
i smoked pot all through high school and still do from time to time. pot is not bad. i was my class treasurer from 10th to 12th grade, graduated with a 3. 4 gpa and i am going to be running the boston marathon in 2009.. and i have many other accomplishments completed while i smoked.
anything that grows naturally and doesn't kill you can't be all bad. hey, doesn't marijuana do that? :gasp:

6hemp is legal in the US under very controlled government facilities... so basically it isn't.
just like #4, i too knew many honor students in my High school that smoked every weekend.
and #3, if yo smoke just a little pot, it gives a little paranoia which causes you to be very careful and very attentive to things going on around you. It has been shown in studies that smoking 2 joints actually improves driving abilities because you are slightly more scared.
Of course, if you smoke massive amounts you shouldn't drive, but just a little bit actually does help.

7I said it on the last pot rant, and I'd like to repeat it on this one. I have married Mary Jane at this point. We have hot, steamy lesbian sex every night. The end.

8I personally totally agree w/ not only leagalizing pot but also ecstacy and L. S. D. and taxing the shit out of it not only is alcohol far more dangerous than theese drugs( as long as the other two I mentioned are made by the F. D. A. and ofcourse are taken safely w/ friends and in tolerable doses) I am also one of the many morons who loved weed so much I thought about trying hard drugs I got totally addicted to meth It ruined my life and almost killed me several times maybe marijuanna is a gateway drug I dunno but better education on it and legalizing it would totally bring those chances of trying other drugs down I am sure horribly sick vile and evil drugs like meth (nothing worse for so many reasons) should be outlawed so badly anyone who makes or sells it shoudl be shot and anyone who buys it a minnimum of 25 years in prison marijuanna is such a beautiful thing it really is but just like anything else on this planet too much of anything is terrible for you

9If you give a stoner a joint then a coke head will want cocaine, then the heroine addicts will demand heroine, then shrooms will be legal and then the pedophiles will demand their activity of choice be legalized, then burgulars will plead that robery is their method of relaxation.
We can't legalize one thing because then we will have to legalize them all. Alcohol was legalized a long time ago, we have tried to outlaw it once but that didn't work out if I recall. I'm sorry, but the world isn't fair.

11#9 weed was outlawed the same time as alcohol, the reason it failed is that alcohol was outlawed last, and the people more or less said, "we want something to mess with us" and it got so out of control that they re-legalized it. As on person who is for legalizing it said, the main reason we are so scared about legalizing it is because we can't remember what it was like when it was legal, we aren't that old. Fact of the mater is that it used to be legal, and everything was fine.
I doubt the other crack heads fight for it for a few reasons. First is that very few people cocaine compared to weed. Weed is quite popular, in America 13% smoke, 17% in canada. I doubt that even 5% of the population is on cocaine.
the next point is that pot smokers can unit and fi you look at the pot smokers, most are very successful people. The teenage stones is a thing of the past, sure there still are some, but for the most part, stoners are good members of the socienty.
the third and last reason is that no one has EVER died from pot. They still cannot find a lethal dose of weed. A lethal dose by the FDA is classified as an amount that 50% of the lab mice will die from it. (then they scale it or whatever). They have yet to find an amount that will kill 50% of the mice. So really, you would have to smoke i believe they said around 100 pounds of pot before you "might" end up dying, and you would most likely die from inhailing the smoke more.

We cant legalize everything. If pot si illegal then others will want theri illegal stuff legalized. Sorry, but pot does kill look it up. Maybe not immeadiatly but in the long run. Once agian we cant legalize one thing cuz we will have to legalize everything

13Um... no, we won't have to legalize everything. It may come about that other narcotics become legal, but the pedophilia and robbery bit you mentioned earlier? Not a good comparison.
Those activities directly harm a non-consenting party (minors cannot legally give sexual consent). Taking drugs is between the substance and the user - no one else.
Instead of focusing on "drug-crime" (buying, selling, posessiing, and using), our police force's time would be better spent on violent crime (robbery, rape, assault, theft, murder). They'll still catch a fair share of drug addicts, but only those who actually need to be removed from society.
There is such a thing as a law-abiding drug user - namely a user who doesn't break any laws aside from drug-laws. Those people do not need to be taking up space in prison.
