I like one of George Carlin's earlier bits, where he says essentially that religion is like having the right shoe, if it helps you stand straighter and walk better then fine, but don't try to force other people to wear your shoes.

While i respect people's hesitance to attack religion, whether it be for respect or a desire to avoid conflict, i am not that way. in my honest opinion, religion is a way for the human mind to contemplate a world that is so outside of our mental limits. we are a young race. some of us still need a safety blanket to keep out all the cold, harsh realities of our amazingly complicated world

While i believe everyone should be living their own life, i generally dislike George Carlins view on religion. Yeah, it gave us war, but so did people who just hated other people, not sure for religious reasons. War is not only religious.
And what did it also give us? most of charity, shit tons of relief money, missionaries who go to countries and help build several homes. There are a hell of a lot of things people do in the name of God that aren't televised and there are a shit ton of bad things people do just because.
how many people rape children or are pedophiles that claim that God told me to do it, or because they just wanted to touch little boys.
