Poor management
Just over six years ago, I started a new job in a new office. I quickly grew to respect my colleagues, supervisor, and manager. My original (assistant) manager was a "lead from the front" kinda guy. He backed his people when they were right, even to upper management. He had everyone's respect, and did a heck of a job.
His immediate boss retired 4 years ago, and someone else was appointed to the job... it wasn't even posted as an opening. Due to "company policy", our immediate supervisor had to change to another division. As a result, a far less qualified and capable individual (and former colleague) was promoted to replace him.
Our assistant manager retired a couple years ago. The most "qualified" applicant to replace him was his own wife. At first, our staff thought it was going to be a source of great continuity, and keep morale up.
However, that was not the case. She is a typical corporate back-stabbing bitch of the 1st degree. She will back the newer supervisor, even when she (the supervisor) is wrong, to the exclusion of almost all else.
I've been sold out by the assistant several times already in two years. I'm not alone in that regard.
Problems that originated in other locations became our cross to bear. We had to put ourselves and our reputation on the line to help out our colleagues from the other location. Colleagues who wouldn't give you the time of day, and have a deeply in-grained sense of entitlement.
Needless to say, our office morale is in the shitter!
Now, with an early retirement plan in place, the other location is losing significant percentage of staff. Who has to take on the burden? You guessed it, our office and one other location.
Short-staffed as we are, we are also in the middle of a hiring freeze, and this early retirement plan is to force attrition.
Our production numbers have suffered mightily, dropping us from first in the company to dead last. Then, they have the fucking audacity to tell us that what we are doing isn't good enough. Then, this early retirement attrition bullshit falls into place, and we are losing a valuable team member to another location, supposedly on a "temporary" basis.
I fucking hate my job, as do most of my colleagues. My manager is a total corporate lackey, and I have no respect for the entire chain of command.
I only stay for the excellent (but deteriorating) benefits, and decent money I make. Oh, and I am close to being vested in the company pension, and don't want to lose that. So, don't tell me to go find another job.

What a bind. enough money, benefits, and no guts. if you're unhappy, but don't plan to leave, then buck up. Do an end run around the bitchface or sit down , shut up, and keep up your dying lifestyle .
