You have the internet, its time to learn how to use it.

You know what pisses me off, people coming to an this site bitching about using wikipedia as a source. They say stuff like " People believe everything they read on the internet." Yet they never check to see if the information they are critcizing is incorrect.

There is a great example of this on the rant titled "They slip that propaganda in whereever they can these days..." If you read the last few comments you can see that two different posts attack using wikipedia as a source.

"Oh right because wikipedia is research."

"It amazes me how people believe everything they read on Wikipedia like it really is an encyclopedia and everything is fact."

Now I can understand not believing everything you read or hear, and in fact would be foolish to do so. But the information that they are questioning is in fact correct, and happens to be on the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

So why the question of the web sites integrity?

I racked my brain on this one, and the only conclusion I can come up with is that these posters are ignorant of some the so called "advanced techniques" for utilizing the internet.

I will demostrate one of these techniques in hopes of enlightening aforementioned posters.

The first thing to do is find a "search engine" website. Their are literally thousands of these sites with one of the most popular being google.
For this demonstration google will be used, but feel free to try others.

Step 1-Go to google.com

Step 2-Type in needed info, in this case Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Step 3-Click the google search button, or simply press enter.

Step 4-Use as needed on any word or phrase where more inforamtion is sought.

Results for FSM upwards of 950,000

Since these people seem to be pretty new to this whole "internet" thing. I will post a link to another website that in fact validates wikipedias info. (Ventibate only allows one link per post or i would have put more.)

uncyclopedia.org

Like I said before don't believe everything you read or hear. But before you decide to write a short, unconcise comment perhaps you should do your research first.

Although I'm sure the majority of what you can find on Wikipedia is fact, the fact is that plenty of it isn't. It, just like many websites, is edited by people that think they know what they're talking about or people that think it's fun to fuck with people. Stories abound of how employees of companies edit Wikipedia articles about their companies to remove or change unfavorable facts.

I'm not defending the people that post short responses just to be stupid and telling someone that you can't believe everything you read on Wikipedia in response to something that can be proven to be a fact doesn't make it not true, but I would say that just because you can find thousands of results for something on Google doesn't mean all of those results can be trusted.

I guarantee you that I could start a rumor about a politician or celebrity on my blog and within days that information will be on thousands of sites. That doesn't make it true.

But EVERYTHING on the TV is 100% true, right?

I understand what you're saying about the rumors but i'm so sick of seeing short incorrect posts. Especially when its a topic that is not hotly debated(Flying Spaghetti Monster).

I didnt put this in my post but their was another example of a guy accusing me of stealing the idea of FSM fromSouth park.

"Wow, above me, I guess your God is mass media? Addicted to consumerism, are we? That's what happens when your best ideas come from a popular animated show (south park) Why don't you think of your own ideas? You are obviously someone's slave, so stop hating."

    Seriously

All well and good, except even search engines like Google can be manipulated by advertisers and special interests so that certain search results always come to the top. So clicking on the first few results doesn't always get you the right info. Just beware, and check several links before you assume anything.

Wikipedia does have some good info, and it also has bad info. look, if you were going to write a scholarly article on anything, you couldn't use wikipedia because it isn't trustworthy. Stop using it for research.

Don't believe me? Take a college course and try to use that bullshit.

Hey bro if you cant settle your attention enough to read about 5 parargraphs maybe you should move on. I'm thinking these "words" are to much for your miniscule undeveloped peanut of a brain to handle. Perhaps you should "read" the post before you pull a short unconcise comment out of your ass.
