Bit torrent is soo fast - or not

Fuck, every time I go to download anything from this torrent shit it goes at like 10KB/s or even slower. A direct download would be a hell of a lot faster. I can get like 400KB/s from direct downloads. Why do people say its so fast when it fucking isn't? Sure, you can get things that you can't get anywhere else, and that's why i think so many people use it. Otherwise why would people put up with this slow ass shit?

I downloaded through bittorrent at 600+kb/s just yesterday. Maybe it's your internet provider that sucks.

There are many ISP's out there that use traffic shaping to slow connections to torrents simply because they take up so much bandwidth. Many universities do it, try encoding your shit and see if that helps.
