I find it annoying too. I hope these idiots don't think it makes them go faster, because it doesn't. In fact, it does the opposite. I'm no expert mechanic, but I have some knowledge about engines. If you put a muffler on, that allows more exhaust flow, especially on a Japanese engine, you will loose engine efficiency. It's called back pressure. Inefficient combustion can gum things up. But what the hell do they know, they're idiots.
If there's some expert mechanics out there that can agree with me or correct me on this, feel free.

I agree with you. Huge exhaust pipes leading to ridiculous mufflers. Sure, it can help the engine breathe better, but you have to buy an intake too.

Actually most of the trucks are straight piped, which means there isn't a muffler on there. As for the loss in power, that depends on the engine. Larger/more powerful engines need bigger pipes for better performance. All these little engines that have the same displacement as a pop bottle do fine with a two inch pipe. I too am tired of cars with 2.0 liter engines that have pipes as big as a semi.
