Do we settle?
Have you ever settled for "less than true love?" Admit it. 80% of the people in relationships right now would probably be alone if they weren't sacrificing 'something,' or wish the person they're with was 'different' in some way. That said, maybe we're being too picky, and it's wrong to uphold someone to such glorious standards that we'd be hard pressed to fulfill, ourselves. All relationships take work, and require compromise, sacrifice, and a steadfast notion of what is right to be true and lasting. If the love and joy are worth the snags, isn't it okay?
So which is it? Is it better to hold out for a magic perfect relationship that may never happen except to one in a million? (The odds don't seem in the avg person's favor.) Are we settling? Or are we just "good" at being in our relationships?

Never wanted to settle for less. Always thought I was too picky and I would end up alone, and then I met my wife. She is my idea of perfect.
But that doesn't mean she's not "settling" for me.

^ Only from the "Carrie Bradshaw" comment by #2. Hard to miss that if you've existed near a television in America over the past ten years. But, I never watched that drivel. I had more entertaining shit to watch. Like college football, pro football, news programs, and Discovery Channel.

Well, I'd say football was a waste of time, but I'll agree with you on Discovery.
Despite the resemblance to Carrie, maybe the OP hasn't existed near a television in the US over the past decade, otherwise I'm sure she would have already answered their question.

Yeah,
we do "settle"... most people do.
we wish our partner was different somehow.
but, are we too picky? yes... but then again, we're settling... Aren't we?
interesting

Yeah, I settled for her because I was tired of pursuing perfection. And I think she settled for me, for the same reason. We're content. Not deliriously happy, but then life is pretty much a series of compromises anyway.

No i dont think i have settled. but i do think that stupid movies and things girls grow up watching makes them have a false idea of romance, love etc.
Things are not perfect , people are not perfect, and no matter HOW perfect someone is , they WILL annoy you sometimes. Thats just the way life is . NOTHING is perfect- not your life, your job , especially people. Someone that is honest , smart, caring is my idea of perfect. F everything else. Just be positive and focus on the good things

I am 34 and lonely. I have had plenty of girlfriends in the past, and meet a fair amount of women. yet, i feel as if 90% of the women out there are flaky and/or golddiggers. Ive also been cheated on more often then not. Which makes negitive to the whole idea of it.

There is a female that I am in love with... To be completely honest prob the girl of my dreams. For some reason you try and try to get the person to understand how you feel and the reason why you settle is because you are tired of the rejection that you receive. So my girl believes we are just great friends, yet I have made every effort to show this girl she is the one.
So what do you do, what do I do, I settle for the next girl to come around who thinks she likes/loves me and you accept the fact that the one you love the most got away!
