Let Down By The System
This vent has been a long time coming and therefore is long, wordy, tired, and worn out. (Just like your mom, burn.) So, dont read it if you are going to bitch about the length and dont waste your time making snide comments at the end cause honestly, I dont care. I just dont want you wasting what miserable life you have posting on here. I hate to think you would waste your life on me. Anyway, lets get down to it.The education system in the United States has let me down. Not primary or secondary. I made it through those OK although to be sure many people do not. I was one of the lucky ones that could make it to college but every day I wonder if this was the best idea.
You see, college just isnt what it was cracked up to be back in the day. Its a game. You dont have to actually learn anything. You have to know what the teacher wants you to know and be able to repeat it when he/she wants. You become no more than a trained chimp that knows what sign to use when it wants positive reinforcement. Furthermore, free thinking is for the most part discouraged at college. You have to obey because they have you by your coin purse. I mean that both ways. They have you financially and thusly have you by your nuts as well.
If one views college as an investment, then shouldnt there be some sort of return? There are so many colleges out there that a college degree can no longer ensure you a job upon graduation. If you cant find a job should you get your money back? Does the school's responsibility to you end as soon as you cross the stage? It shouldnt. Especially when you are investing between $40,000 - $100,000 for your degree.
But what if you cant even afford to pay that amount but still want to go to college? Then you can take out student loans. Some nice bank will give you money to go to school, at a 16%-18% interest rate. Thats fair right? Plus they even give you a six month grace period after graduation before you have to start paying it back. Sweet right? Gosh. It all sounds so good in theory.
Surely, with loans and everything then the schools should take care of you seeing as they have access to all of your financial information and know full well the situation you are in. Do they help you out? No. They fuck you. They make you take pointelss classes, they dont help you with financial aid, they take money from you every chance they get, and have eventually become the epitome of evil capitalism.
Which brings us to my particular case. I am in my sixth year of collegiate studies. I have been to 4 different colleges now. Recently, I left my home university in the US to study abroad. This is where the trouble started. First my asshole university was supposed to send me all of my loan money since I now had to pay a different university and needed money with which to feed and clothe myself in a foreign country. Did they do this? No. Did they tell the banks from who I borrowed the money learn that I had left my school and gone to another? (which is supposed to be done through my home university) No. So what happened? After living for 8 months in Europe in near poverty, living on what amounted to about $40 a day (I know its not poverty but it makes living as a student in a foreign country very very hard) and returned only to find out that my credit was fucked thanks to my school fucking up with the banks. See, the banks thought I was out of school and they wanted their money back. Herein lies the problem. First I was 2 months past due on loans already. Next, I still had to finish school which means taking out more loans which means fixing my credit and finally, if I chose to just pay off my student loans by working until I could afford to go back to school, there is no way I will be able to find a job without a degree where I will be making enough money for me to pay $1500/month to the bank for my loans. So now I am fucked. The bank wont help me, the school wont help me, my parents CANT help me, and I am at a loss for ideas. I am basically doomed to indentured servitude for the rest of my natural life.
Thank you very much American college system. I fucking hate you and hope with every breath I take that you die. If you were a baby, I would drown you. I can only hope someone fixes this shit quick. I dont know how the hell the system got to where it is today, where drinking, sex, sports, drugs, and partying come before academics, but it is wasting my time and money and I fucking hate every minute of it.
If you disagree fuck you I hate you too. I had to get this off my chest somehow and I feel better now for it. So, kindly, eat a dick.

Dude... Lawsuit.
If american education teaches you anything, it`s that with outrageous enough claim and obnoxious enough behavior you can sue for as much as you want, and win.

Condensed version.
Dude takes out student loan, gets a transfer to college abroad, local college fucks up and forgets to notify bank about transfer abroad, bank assumes guy finished school or dropped out, and wants to collect - whereas guy is living on pittance abroad and can`t figure out where`s his damn money.
So now he comes back and finds that bank wants money, college shrugs and gives him a runaround and noone generally gives a fuck about mismanaging and misappropriating his funds.
___
Obviously, I suggest to file a lawsuit to rectify that. ^_^

Yeah, just what the world needs, more fucking lawsuits...
First of all, the OP should bear some of the responsibility. He/she should have notified his lending bank that he/she was studying abroad, and to make sure that his/her local university forwards the funds. Secondly, he/she should have advised the financial aid office and the bursar's office of said local university of his travel and study plans abroad. Finally, he/she should have made the appropriate calls during the semester abroad to rectify the situation, rather than lollygagging around until afterwards, and then trying to salvage it.
I have no sympathy for this fucktard. Serves him/her right for going outside the US to learn shit from people who don't know shit - as he/she indicates in the first part of the vent about all post-secondary education.

It`s the US of A. No matter what kind of stupid reason you have, you can file lawsuit.
That much is the only redeeming feature, really. In a country, where anyone can dick you over out of blue, the only thing that makes it worth it is the capability to dick them over first.
___
For example, nothing like this could happen in countries with free education.

"I am basically doomed to indentured servitude for the rest of my natural life."
and that, my friend, is the entire purpose of public education.
Google for John Taylor Gatto's "Against School" page. It tells you all about it.

Op, you are a dumbass for leaving the country, what reason would you have for that???

#7; If you have to ask that question, then it is you that is the dumbass.
And OP; learned a similar lesson the hard way. Unfortunately I agree with #4. In the end it is your loan, and the responsibility falls on you to make sure your lending institution knows you are in school, whether or not the university was "supposed" to tell them. But did I mention I learned that lesson the hard way? Just finished my year off working to fix my credit. Its really not that bad. Good luck.

I am going to start saying that to people every day, that's how much I love that phrase.
best of luck OP; can't say you're totally blameless in this situation, but i still hope things work out for you.

All college is is a waste of time to get a piece of paper that says you learned how to play games and work the system. Playing games and working the system is what life is all about.

That sucks that you're in this situation. You are partially at fault for not making sure everything was in order before going abroad, but I still feel for you.
Being in debt sucks. I am in debt for $30,000+ for a post-baccalaureate teacher certification... Almost makes me think it wasn't even worth it for the amount of debt I have after 1.5 years of school, not to mention the crappy salary I have. College just doesn't seem worth it anymore...
