Fuck U.S.
How much longer will my generation continue to consume themselves with their myspace pages, ipods, and idle chat about omigawd Lindsay Lohan. During Vietnam there was enough social conscious in our country to rally support against the war, wtf happened to that! There is no WMD's no fuckingreason to be there!!!! How can we continue to sit and watch our country as they attempt a 21st century colonial effort?!?!?! "Sphere" of influence were same words by the Europeans during the scramble for Africa during the late 17th century. I don't care if it messes up the country if we leave, maybe we as American's can just admit were not perfect and our government is a bunch of rich assholes who have lost connection with its people. When this country was established we formed it to have STRONG state rights and WEAK central government. Many celebrate the Civil War because it helped abolish slavery, yet slavery by all statistics was on the decline in the south and slowly being outdated by other means. What was truly lost in the Civil War was state rights and power of the people against the government. Look now into California as Federal DEA agents raid state regulated medical marijuana facilities, under "federal law" even though the people of California made a democratic decsion to allow marijuana propagation. Lastly the next time someone tries to shove that "be proud to be American, freest country in the world" bullshit on you please think of the Native Americans, WWII concentration camps, our discrimination by race, shady politics, and what the fuck it really means to be free.

I believe that we as a country are becoming more and more apathetic. We've realized that this is not a Government of the People anymore (if it ever was). The vast majority of Americans are in favor of bringing the troops home, but politicians are under no obligation to listen to the majority. We've realized that no matter how many protests, how many petitions, how many pleads to our congressmen, nothing is going to change. We've essentially stopped protesting because we know it's a fruitless endeavor. Look at all the protests for Vietnam and Korea. Good in theory, but the Government was incredibly slow to respond to "public pressure". I will be shocked if the troops re pulled out before the 2008 election.
We've turned to iphones and celebrities because we've become so apathetic to the woes of the world. When you hear every day of hundreds of people dying in Iraq, you eventually become numb to it. Most people can live their lives without thinking about the war on a daily basis.
BTW, of course they lied about why we went to war. Why would you have expected any different? The masses are ignorant and easily manipulated.

The U.S. is NOT a good country. Nearly every first world country has a constitution. Canada has free medicare. Most of Europe is Democratic. There is nothing special about the U.S. We have nothing other countries don't have but we also have a ton of problems with corruption, pollution, health, etc. Americans suck. As soon as I save some money, I am leaving this hell hole and moving to Australia.

The U.S. is still a good place to reside and make a living. The politics of one war does not change the people. Much darker days are ahead though, unbearable horrors are yet to be visited on the U.S. Sadly it is in the darkest hour that politicians will realize isolationism is a good doctrine although impossible if we wish to remain sovereign.

Live somewhere else before you bash America. I'm defiantly not one of those "Like it 'er git out" types, not by a long shot. But I think you might get perspective on the "rampant corruption" and "lack of services" in the US.
The US tax burden is ridiculously low. You want free healthcare, sure, just pay some more taxes. But you don't want to pay more taxes, that's the problem.
You think the US is corrupt, look at Italy. And that's not even the worst case scenario, Canada, the UK, and France have all dealt with serious political corruption and major scandals in the past few years.
You think things aren't going well? Vote. Most American's don't. And don't just vote in national elections but in state and local elections as well. Actually be a part of the process rather than just complaining about it.
At the end of the day America is a reflection of her people. If you never show up to vote - except against some tax that's going to fund public education or medical coverage - don't be surprised with the results.

All I am saying is that we are only 40 some odd years removed from the civil rights movement. Freedom is a hypocritical claim, it only exists for the haves in a capitalistic society

Are we on the internet having a discussion about how America is free? Are we able to criticize the government? Are we able to move through the economic caste system? Are we able to move from state to state, or even leave the country and apply for citizenship elsewhere?
Freedom is not a hypocritical claim, it's a privilege hard to maintain and oft undervalued.
