Press 1 for English
I'm am getting so tired of hearing "press 1 for English" when I call a company. I speak English and I live in the U. S. which is an English speaking country. Why the hell should I have to press anything for English?Although I would support a message that said, "If you speak English press 1 and we'll be with you shortly. If you don't speak English, please hold while we contact immigration and trace your number."

Usually anytime I get one of those I press zero or just wait, that way a human has to get involved. If enough people did it maybe they would get rid of the fucking robot phone machines.

I do the same thing #2. I always press 0 to bypass the system but unfortunately then I end up talking to someone in India or the Philippines and I can't understand half of what they say.

Last I checked, we're still technically a 'free' country. So private companies can cater to fucking Tagalog speakers if they want to. If you have a problem with it, don't patronize those companies and buy only 'American' things made by slaves in Micronesia/Mexico you xenophobic piece of shit or get over it!

We don't have an official language? Is that like saying that French is not the official language of France or that Spanish is not the official language of Mexico?

The only people that belong in this country legally speak English for the most part. The reason that so much effort is spent making recordings for people that don't speak English or putting up signs in Miami in both Spanish and English is for the illegals and I'm tired of catering to illegal immigrants that have no business being in this country in the first place.

The US has never officially declared English as our language despite it being painfully obvious. Since we have been built upon the foundation of immigration, perhaps declaring an official language would be seen as contradictory to our history.
However, I say fuck that. The government NEEDS to do something. We shouldn't have to cater to other languages. If you were to visit a foreign country or live there, the expectation would be to learn the national language. It should be the same here.

One would think it hardly necessary to make some sort of official declaration that English is the national language of the US. We refuse to switch to the metric system for Christ's sake how much more proof does anyone need?

#10, we as Americans generally expect that the citizens of a forign country speak English. We are spoiled and pampered. You should read what other countries think of us. I recomend NPR

Oh, right, NPR... Not a biased source at all! And by the way, when I was in France, I did not EXPECT them to speak English, since I was visiting THEIR country, I figured how to communicate in THEIR language. It's called courtesy, something that is not extended to us in our own country.
Seriously, though, OP, I agree 100%. I'm not saying that it shouldn't be an option to have other languages, but it should be automatically English, and then numbers if you need them.
