Press 1 for English

I'm am getting so tired of hearing "press 1 for English" when I call a company. I speak English and I live in the U. S. which is an English speaking country. Why the hell should I have to press anything for English?

Although I would support a message that said, "If you speak English press 1 and we'll be with you shortly. If you don't speak English, please hold while we contact immigration and trace your number."
