Interracial dating

I was wondering why is so taboo in the south for Black man to date a white girl? It would seem that parents socialize still socialize there kids to have negative stigma about black males. As a resident of Atlanta, GA I pull my fair share of girls but many do admit I am there first appearance with the darkside and are a little hesistant for whatever reason they may have. As diverse as Atlanta is it still very taboo. Could someone please provide an explanation for me
