McAfee Virus Protection scam

I purchased a one-year subscription to McAfee's Internet Security Suite in September, '07. Since that time I have received periodic emails telling me that my protection had expired and that I needed to renew. I just got another one. This one says that my current status is unprotected and that my protection expired in February.

I just checked and McAfee is running and shows that I am currently protected and all virus definitions are up to date. I also checked my receipt so I know I am paid up through September, '08.

So what kind of scam is McAfee running here? Think of all the people that don't take the time to go look up the date they purchased something when they get a notification that it's time to renew. They just go ahead and send in the money.

I don't trust any free software and when it comes to virus protection, I ain't putting anything on my computer that someone isn't making money selling and supporting. Usually with free software you end up paying for it somehow, even if it's because of all the spyware they install along with it.

You guys are funny. Your answer is that he should have stolen a copy or used free software and you're missing the entire point. What difference does it make what he bought or how much he paid? The point is that a company is scamming people.

We use McAfee on our company computers and no company is going to use free software and in most cases, legally shouldn't. Avast is not free for corporate use, it's only free for non-commercial home use. We have also noticed that McAfee tries to get you to renew well before the time has expired.

5: Nobody said to steal anything. Second, he paid for a service that can be obtained for free (legally). Therefore he's a sucker.

Everyone I know who is a techy laughs at the McAfee users and basically all people who pay for things that can be gained for free.

I wouldn't be caught dead with McAfee anything on my system. I've never had a spyware problem or a virus of any kind on this computer because I know what I'm doing and I have the right protection.

McAfee is for people who don't know what they are doing and a fool and his money soon part ways. People like that make money for people like me when they bring their computers in.

Smart ass tech geeks like you #7 don't impress anyone but yourselves. The majority of computer users on the planet aren't geeks and don't need to be, that's what we pay people like you for. The funny thing is that the geeks that work on my computers are lucky to make enough money to even buy a car and yet they still pull the same arrogant shit you do whenever I need to have them do anything on my computers.

Funny how all the geek punks are jumping in here to show everyone how smart they are and bash McAfee but none of them got the point. Typical.

Looks like a bunch of GeekSquad employees that make about as much as someone that works at McDonald's took this opportunity to make themselves feel good about knowing how to use computers but not well enough to get a good job.

Most of those systems provide your computer with a virus of its own... forcing you to continue to purchase the only product that can get rid of it...(theirs!). Very Sad!
