Unbelievable
I just saw a commercial with a guy talking about harnessing wind power and "reducing our dependence on foreign oil."WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?
Does ANYONE reading this know of ANYTHING that wind power would save us from using oil on? Do we use oil to turn on our lights? No, we use coal or nuclear power (or others, small percentages).
Do we use oil to cool our homes? No.
Do we use oil to heat up our water? No.
So what do we use foreign oil on?
Our fucking SUVs, and those plastic imported toys you find at the dollar store sitting out on the curb on sale for 50 cents. Does this guy think wind power will save us from using oil by providing energy for our cars?
I'm all for windpower, but before you blast out some irrational save-the-planet save-oil bullshit, put some thought into what you're advocating.
Fuck me

Um, ever heard of oil-fired power plants? Oil heating?
Wind power does have some potential. It's not THE answer but it could ease the pain on America's pocketbook.

Cept in Ted Kennedys back yard.
Typical partisan bullshit. 5 years ago wind power was shot down by the greenies as destructive to the environment (ridge habitat destruction, bird deaths, noise, etc.) now it's the second coming.
When are we going to wake up?

Oh sorry then, I watched a Harvard speaker on C-Span and I heard nothing of oil fired power plants. Now I feel ignorant.
Sorry folks

Wanna know why T. Boone Pickens wants you to use natural gas? Because he owns a shitload of it.

#4... But take into account oil doesn't last forever... At least if we use natural gas,... We use less oil.
When there's no oil.. Nothing will exist.. We couldn't do anything. We couldn't make medicine, make the bottle to hold the medicine, make any packaging... Bottles, fuckin.. Anything on the planet we need to live.. My mind would explode listing and thinking of things we'de live without WHEN we run out of oil.

There are no good reasons for using oil anymore. We have the technology to make plastics from cellulose, we have the technology to use passive solar for heating and cooling our homes plus wind is everywhere. Given the fact that not many of these alternatives have yet to hit the mainstream they have yet to catch on. But, when they do, oil is as dead as the fossils it is derived from.

I don't know about you cocksucking Yankees, but down here in Texas we have all the Oil we need. I do know one thing, it's gets a little chilly up north. Start putting the woodpile together, this might get a little shitty for you guys.

I know sorry #8. Like I said, I was going off a speech at Harvard that was on C-Span. #7, I'm from texas, and all that oil is most likely owned by my uncles... And they also don't have an unlimited supply.

Generally speaking, all known oli basins of the world are not capable of sustaining humanity`s need in oil for more then half-century at most.
There`s already six billions of pests, and every single one wants a plastic bag and wants it cheap.
That`s the keyword here. CHEAP.
Despite all the bullshit around oil and who gets it, it`s still one of the cheapest and easiest to use energy sources.
Of course, if LHA turns up something fundamental - like confirmed cold fusion or commercially-sound breeder reactors, oil`s consumption will go down faster then you can pronounce "rumpelstiltskin".
One of the major sources of oil expense is automotive fuel. If that alone would be eliminated or diminished, problem of oil shortage would be addressed quite neatly.

Oil fired power plants account for a very small percentage of our electricity production. Oil is used primarily for transportation and home heating. So, the OP has a point, wind power would not be used to replace much of anything that we use oil for.
